Active Incidents

We are aware of the fires in the far east part of the county around Ross Lake, but have no involvement in response activities. More information can be gotten through the North Cascades National Park Service.
Advisories, Watches and Warnings
There currently are no advisories, watches or warnings in Whatcom County.
DNR fire danger level for the lowlands is at Moderate, with the Cascades at Moderate . See here for more information.
Whatcom County Outdoor Burning: As of 8 am September 11, a Stage 1 burn ban is in place. This allows for recreational fires.
WA Dept. of Ecology has declared a drought as of April 8, 2026 that includes Whatcom County. See here for more information. The U.S. Drought Monitor indicates most of Whatcom County is in moderate drought with just the far west portion still abnormally dry, The far east parts are in extreme drought. Whatcom County Inland Weather
A bit of a weak disturbance expected to push across the region on Tuesday. With enhanced cloud cover and overcast skies filling into early Tuesday morning a threat for light rain and drizzle will be possible at times. The threat for light rain will likely continue through the afternoon hours before finally decreasing and tapering off as cloud cover breaks apart. Clearer skies expected through the overnight hours will allow for a decent inversion to develop, with colder temperatures expected in the low lying routes. Weather then expected to remain dry and a bit warmer through Tuesday night and into Wednesday as a ridge of high pressure builds over the region.
High pressure and warming temperatures will continue through the remainder of the work week and into the weekend with no significant weather concerns expected at this time. With clear skies during the overnight hours a threat for deep inversion will develop over the region aiding to cooler overnight temperatures but daytime heating in the afternoon will bring them up into the 70s through Friday. A marine layer pushing off the coast is possible going into the weekend aiding to low overcast skies and a threat for mist and cooler temperatures. The next threat for any substantial rain is likely pushed into the following week.
Coastal Weather
The flow will turn more northerly today. Thermally induced low pressure expanding northward along the coast will lead to more northerly or offshore flow Wednesday and Thursday. Onshore flow will return Friday into the weekend as a series of system pass well north of the area.
For the Strait and Inland Coastal waters of Whatcom County today we will have north winds at around 5 knots, backing to northwest this afternoon. Wind waves around 2 feet or less. A slight chance of rain early this morning. Moving into the evening, winds will be from the west at 5-10 knots, becoming northwest after midnight. Wind waves around 2 feet or less.
